Home About Us
I worked for the CNR(Canadian National Railway) engineering department for a number of years, also I worked at the Interior Bridge & Building department.I have worked on several bridges where I learned railway construction practices.I later went into carpentry in finishing and home building in the private sector.Having been in "O" guage for many years I changed to "HO", and for the past few years I have gotten into garden railways. Now that I am retired I persue the hobby on a full time basis after opening Kamloops Junction in December of 2000. We try to design and build our products true to scale, no more toy like bridges with popscile sticks with huge timbers. The houses and buildings are built to correct scale and look like someone is going to come out the doorway at any moment.
The Material
The material used for our products is cedar from a small locally owned sawmill, the lumber is then milled and sorted into selected cuts for different applications, the lumber is then cut with special blades to give natural looking scale saw marks as in real lumber for the timbers and rough cut lumber. The glus used is Bull Dog PL Premium glue that has undergone time tested trials and proved to be an excellent adhesive, it works well on wood, metal, cement and a number of other materials and can be used with confidence in the garden railway hobby. The finish on wood produvts is simple, and will stand up like any other house with periodic painting.Any contact with the ground should have at least 2 coats of creosote or other wood preservative. My shingle roof does not have any protection and still looks great, but a a varnish with a UV inhibitor, such as Sikens deck coat would work well on the roof or any other part of the model.
